The Camp

The Rooms

Four spacious and airy en-suite rooms lie on either side of the Camp Hwange main area, each with direct views onto the permanent waterhole. The rooms are canvas-walled and kept cool in summer (and warm in winter) by their thatched roofs. One is a two-roomed family room with independent bathrooms. The spacing between them ensures privacy for each room with our obligatory gauze panels serving as windows to ensure both a cooling through draft as well as the ability to hear the sounds of the night. Whether it is the frogs at the waterhole, a lonely whooping Hyaena, the splashes and rumbles of an elephant herd in the water or the roars of the resident Lion pride, we want you to hear, smell and feel Africa.

The Main Area

Our open-sided thatched lounge and dining area is centrally located and is the hub of the camp. Views towards the waterhole are maximized from the comfortable, airy lounge and bar, while the communal dining hosted by our team creates a convivial atmosphere where guests get to know their fellow travellers. Spend the heat of day browsing the library and fascinating collection of artefacts while keeping a lazy eye on the waterhole.

The Pool

Our newly added reservoir-style swimming pool and raised deck provide perfect vantage points over the camp waterhole during the heat of the day and an ideal cooling dip in the summer months. We even put it to use in the evenings for romantic dinners to the backdrop of elephant herds slaking their thirst at the waterhole.

The Fire Pit

The heart and soul of safari life is the campfire. Camp Hwange is no exception, and it is around our open air firepit that your days both start and end. Gather in the glow of dawn to warm yourself by the fire and with a cup of tea of coffee while you watch (and hear) the world come alive, the pastel hues of the morning sky changing constantly as you provision yourself with a light breakfast. And then end the day, retiring from the dinner table, by staring at the brilliant night sky and contemplating the enormity of the wilderness you find yourself in. See if you can spot a springhare or listen to the elephants at the waterhole, while sharing thoughts and reflections with your guide or other guests.
